How to wear my sneakers at the office without looking too casual?
Reader’s question: “How to wear my new balance sneakers at the office without being too casual? Even though I work in a cool activity field but I have to stay put.”
My answer:
To wear your sneakers at the office, you should mix them with classy items.
A blouse, a blazer or a pencil skirt, which are typical office’s clothes will instantly make a sneaker’s outfit office-proof.
Adding sophisticated details such as jewels or statement lips and/or nails can also be a good option.
Of course, it is easier to achieve chic looks with sneakers that are not too flashy. But you can balance flashy sneakers with neutral shades.
New balance sneakers, like most sneakers, make the leg look heavier. Therefore I advise you not to wear it with under the knee skirt or bootcut pants. 7/8 pants are the perfect choice (except if your legs are really on the short side). Slim pants are also an option. And if you have very long legs you can try flare pants.
Here are some outfits you could pull out.
1. Sneakers + pencil skirt
Pencil skirt = sleek and chic. V neck cashmere = sleek and chic. Add a statement necklace and some nail polish and voilà, you are chic in sneakers.
2. Sneakers + 7/8 cigarette pants, blouse and blazer
This outfits is basically a suit made of different colors and prints. And what could be more of an office outfit than a suit? The loops earring, the colors and the print make this sneaker look bohemian and sophisticated.
3. Sneakers + statement jewel and make-up
What? Sneakers AND jeans AND T-shirt? Yes but worn in a chic way. The blazer adds structure, the make-up and necklace add sophistication.
4. Sneakers + striped blouse and grey skirt
Striped blouse + grey wool skirt, what could be more suitable for the office? Sneakers give just the perfect amount of fashionable twist here. And the cut of the skirt is slightly edgy.
Hi there! I love this post! I always wondered how to wear my sneakers at the office. I do have a follow up question though: do you wear socks? stockings? tights? or just bare?
Thanks!
Hi Sylvie,
You can wear tights (or stockings, pretty much the same) and socks because otherwise that would not be comfy but choose ones that go low so they do not show and it looks as if you were wearing your sneakers barefoot.
