How to dress for a wedding
Miss Alwayswelldressed and Mister Sochic have the pleasure to invite you to their wedding.
First reaction: “Yey! Wedding! Party! Wohooo!”
Second reaction: “OMG, OMG, what the hell am I gonna weaaaaar?”
Keep cool and stay tuned, I am gonna help you solve that tremendous problem.
1. Follow the dresscode
First thing first, is there such thing as a dresscode for this wedding? In fact, there always is. Sometimes mandatory, sometimes implicit.
The answer is not obvious to you?
Go get some hints Sherlock!
– where does the wedding take place? In the city or on a desert island?
– do you know if the bride and groom are more sleek chic or bohemian?
– will you have an endless meal designed by a famous chef or a playful buffet?
– how does the invitation card look?
– is dancing on the menu?
– will it be Breezy? Rainy? Snowy? Steamy? Sandy?
– are there any Lannisters on the guest list?
In the above situation, barefoot is an option.
Some examples of outfits:
– For a urban super posh wedding
Designer dress and high heels
– For a countryside bohemian wedding
Barefoot sandals and spaghetti dress.
2. Wear happy colors!
No matter what the theme is, colors are always a good option.
They can be pastels, bright colors or pale neutrals such as gray, beige or even navy blue (you know how much I love this shade).
Since you are going to a wedding in the daylight and not to a dressy night out, forget all black outfits as well as strass abuse.
Of course an all white outfit is the privilege of the bride but it does not mean you can’t wear any!
Very popular at wedding!
To achieve that, mix your pastel items with nude colors and modernize them with some silver, modern cuts and fabrics.
– Bright colors
One bright color is nice but lots of them can make you look like a drunken chameleon.
To learn how to match colors check out my article on the subject!
Careful with red that quickly looks too sexy for a wedding.
Always chic dear!
– Floral prints
Second most popular wedding outfit styling after pastels.
They can quickly look old fashioned as well. Isn’t it your majesty?
To avoid that, choose a modern cut and fabric.
Match the color of your shoes to a detail of the print. Or go for nude.
3. Be elegant
Chunky sandals or kitten heels are the perfect choice for staying up all night long and not getting stuck in the soft grass.
If you wanna go for the stilettos, never forget to bring a second pair of shoes just in case because walking like a ballerina is the first step to elegance!
And please, please no platform stilettos (yes even in nude), they are quite tacky (remember).
Do not wear clothes that are too short or bodycon. Think Audrey Hepburn rather than Kourtney West (even though Kanye helped her get more chic, she keeps liking super tight clothes).
Don’t be too loud. If your dress is crazy, choose low profile accessories.
Don’t catch a cold. Sneezing is not elegant right? So wear a blazer jacket or a tuxedo over your outfit if needed.
I do not recommend boleros and pashminas that are quite old-fashioned.
4. Be yourself!
Yes there is a dresscode but it is not your style, yes you are indeed Kim and would like to be the sexiest girl in the place, no you do not like dresses or skirts, yes you are 75 and want to be noticed… no panic, there is always an option and sticking to your style is still the best way to look astonishing.
Always focus on accessories because they add personality to your outfit.
– You are not a girly girl
Wear pants into a minimalist outfit and trust me, they’ll all be jealous
– You are a classic person invited to a bohemian wedding
Keep up with your chic style but do not be too uptight!
– You want to pick up the groom’s single brother without shocking your future in-laws
Low neck/back+ defined waist + sexy legs = check. Follow me shoes = check. Fresh colors = check. Elegant outfit = check!
– You are the bride’s posh mother and want to impress the groom’s mother
Twist your elegant tailored dress with wisely picked accessories
– You are the groom’s grandma and want to proove that age has nothing to do with style (and you’re damn right!)
Cover up but show off ^^
Hope you were able to find some inspirations for your next wedding 🙂
